In the EU at least the poor have all the time in the world. They decide to endlessly watch TV (soccer for example comes to mind) and play videogames instead of using their time to learn new things.
This really doesn't have much to do with wealth. It's a mindset. Now of course those who have the mindset to constantly read, learn, stay informed, etc. happen to also have better odds at making good money than those who decide to drink beer while watching soccer.
BTW the rich people I know who are highly educated that happen to be doctors do not have much time to read the news. They're working their arses off. They also happen to not know the names of soccer players.
Water is and continues to be wet. Not that I think The Atlantic is above this but this is closer to a buzzfeed life hack than remotely insightful.
